Rhododendron aganniphum
var. schizopeplum Evergreen. 1 to 3 m
high. Ovate or broad elliptic leaf,
thin-haired back, first grey then brown.
Umbel, about 12 flowers,
funnel-campanulate corolla, 3 cm long,
first pink then white, deep red patched.
Flowering: June to Aug. Cold hygrophiles,
acidophilous. Sinoendemic. From southeast
Tibet and northwest Yunan, 3500 to 4600 m,
dark coniferous forestedge and alpine
scrub.
